Spoilers ahead!
Went to watch ‘Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist’ before the early Christmas dinner I had with my poly-mates. I think the movie was very sweet and funny, in an almost geeky sort of way.
It was a little cliche in terms of its American high-school BGR issues. Bitch likes nice guy, nice guy loves bitch, bitch is a two-timer, bitch’s ordinary-looking friend likes nice guy too, nice guy starts liking bitch’s ordinary-looking friend, bitch wants nice guy back, ordinary-looking friend’s ex-boyfriend still pesters her although he doesn’t really like her, ordinary-looking friend gets together with nice guy.
But I like the twist inserted into this beaten plot by the use of music, mix tapes, gay band-mates, drunken friends and the average looks of the young stars. It makes the plot more updated and gives the movie a more realistic feel to it. The music and liveband scene is pretty much engaging to most youths now, what with the Apple-generation and rise of indie music and MySpace. Although some of the “kidnapping” and finding Caroline stuff wouldn’t happen much, but otherwise the main storyline could happen to almost anyone.
I think the movie was worth the ticket price! Lovely, real and geeky. Makes me want to find a friend who enjoys the same music or books as I do! And visit the Electric Lady Studios. I’m so going to get the soundtrack too! Awesome music.
