Sam, my fellow fashion addict AND Uniqlo lover informed me via sms last weekend that UNIQLO IS COMING TO TOWN!!!
Here’s what she sent:
“Guys. Uniqlo will be in sgp next aug. wing tai who is bringing in the brand says price will be same as hkg! Better buy more now to prove we are fashion forward!”
Pretentious people we are.
Alright. Proving we are fashion forward by owning Uniqlo items is auxiliary to the items sold. Apparently Uniqlo is like the Japanese version of Gap but trust me, Uniqlo is way better!
Firstly, I find that Uniqlo offers a wider range of basics that are really basics (i.e. never go out of fashion) suitable for layering whereas Gap’s items veer towards whatever is trendy for now.
Secondly, Uniqlo’s items are really comfy! I’ve got like 4 or 5 t-shirts from Hong Kong’s Uniqlo and I’m wearing them to death. Even their underwear is great!
Thirdly, they offer accessories like caps, sunglasses, scarves, belts etc to mix and match. I shall not get big-headed about my buys but the amount of people who have complimented me when I wore the caps I bought from Uniqlo makes it hard for me not to do so.
Lastly and most importantly, it’s freaking affordable. I mean cheap. Really. Gap’s items, to me, are a tad over-priced.
Anyway, article here.
Cheers to Wing Tai and Fast Retailing! I do not need to go Hong Kong to get my Uniqlo fix ever so often!
Hang on. Doesn’t that mean everyone in Singapore will start wearing Uniqlo and soon it’ll join the ranks of Topshop, Zara and Mango as one of the unspoken everyone-buys-from-there shops of Singapore?
It’s ok. Fashion forward us will find some way to wear Uniqlo’s items differently. Ha.
