Chinese New Year is a darn good excuse for everyone to get new clothes! Especially when your parents give you some cash to spend without feeling guilty!
Finally went shopping today. Been pretty busy with work and other social commitments lately. AND my sis FINALLY fulfilled her promise of going Haji Lane with me after saying it in like, December. If I have punctuality issues, she has procrastination issues.
May I add that her sense of direction is pretty warped. Even though I’ve never been there before, my gut feeling pointed me to the right direction. But she being the one who has been there before and “knows the place pretty well”, led me in the opposite direction. I should seriously consider getting her a street directory and compass for her birthday.
Finally, I saw some stuff that I actually WANT to buy. Working in Far East Plaza has its perks and boo-boos. The perks being that I can shop conveniently and DISCREETLY at Orchard with some form of little discount and the boo-boos being that I get VERY bored with the stuff I see because almost every store in Far East stocks about pretty much the same stuff. Ok. Not exactly the same but looks the same. So everything becomes boringly familiar after a while and instead of comparing which item is nicer, its a comparison between value for money (meaning a question of quality and workmanship).
It doesn’t help that Far East is usually packed with people I don’t like mixing with and be seen wearing the same clothes as. Maybe because everyone wants to be fashion-forward, the stores there stock pretty much the same trendy stuff that appeals to the masses, but not to me because I just fucking hate to wear the same thing as everyone. Babydoll dresses, block colours, boyfriend shirts, skinny jeans and Mondo shoes just don’t do it for me. Besides, trends don’t last long.
So ends up, I don’t really shop at Far East anymore. =( Even if I do, it’s only a few shops that I always go back to although I usually walk out empty handed. The items sold in most shops just don’t carry that surprise and “must-get-it-or-regret” factor anymore. Kinda disappointing to return from a shopping trip empty handed you know?
I hope Haji Lane doesn’t end up like Far East Plaza, too commercialized (i.e. boring) and sells stuff at ridiculously high prices which the quality doesn’t match up to. Then at least, I have somewhere I can shop at.
By the way, I had my dinner at Ma Maison in Bugis Junction and I prefer the outlet at Central!!! My sis had spaghetti with cream sauce and I had Scutch Eggs, both of which just didn’t reach my expectations which, I’ve developed since the previous visits. Maybe it’s just those particular dishes.
I miss the Ma Maison in Central! Someone date me soon!
